Barrientos won by two shots, while the Sun Devils held off the Clemson Tigers to win by four shots
The Arizona State women's team and Clemson's Melena Barrientos won the Notre Dame Clover Cup Women's Collegiate at The Wigwam, the Blue Course, in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Arizona State was able to hold off the Clemson Tigers late in the final round, finishing 13-under with rounds of 274-279-274.
Clemson finished in solo second place at 9-under, and Texas A&M finished in solo third place at 1-under. Arizona State, Clemson, and Texas A&M were the only three schools to finish under par for the tournament.
Indiana finished in solo fourth place at 10-over, and Notre Dame finished in solo fifth place at 15-over.
In the individual competition, Barrientos carded rounds of 72-64-66 to get to 8-under and win by two shots over Vanessa Borovilos of Texas A&M and Beth Coulter of Arizona State
Borovilos and Coulter finished T2 at 6-under. Barrientos is currently ranked No. 411 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings.
Barrientos became the seventh different golfer in Clemson women’s golf history to win a tournament. The Plano, Tex. native is a three-year starter who has a 73.52 stroke average for her career, the ninth-best in Clemson history.
According to Clemson Athletics, she is seventh in school history in rounds under par with 22 and seventh at par or better. She has 12 career rounds in the 60s, which is tied for sixth in school history, and has 234 birdies, which is currently seventh in school history.
