Stanford takes Battle of the Bay over San Jose State

The Cardinals won the third iteration of the match 5-1 over the Spartans and are now 4-0 in match play this season
The Stanford Cardinals women's golf team moved to 3-1 all-time in the Battle of the Bay at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif., winning 5-1 over the San Jose Spartans.
The Cardinals are now 4-0 this season in match play.
Sophomore Paula Martin Sampedro was the first to clinch a point for the Cardinal, doing so over Isabella Cioe 5 and 3. Martin Sampedro is now 2-0-2 in match play this season.
She was the highest-ranked player in the field, ranked No. 16 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings.
Megha Ganne dominated her match, taking down Tessa Kremser 6 and 5 with a clinical matchplay performance. Through five holes, she had a four-stroke lead, and at the turn, the lead was up to five strokes. She secured it with a par putt on 13 for her first match play win of the 2024-25 season.
Nora Sundberg of Stanford secured the clinching point for the Cardinals, who had a back-and-forth affair with Nicola Kaminski of San Jose State. Sundberg made a clutch putt from ten feet out on No. 18 to secure a 1-up and Stanford team victory.
Kelly Xu of Stanford took down Lucia Lopez-Ortega 3 and 1. Xu trailed by three strokes after ten holes but then rattled off five-straight hole wins on holes No. 11 to 15 with three birdies.
According to Stanford Athletics, Xu was unbeaten in match play at the NCAA championship last year and has three match play wins this season.
Stanford did not lose a match against San Jose State. Freshman Meja Ortengren of Stanford and Moa Andersson of San Jose State finished tied, and Leigh Chien of Stanford and Rebecca Gyllner also tied their match.
Stanford won the inaugural event in 2022 and won 5-1 last year, while San Jose State was victorious in 2023.
