Riedel, who graduated from Vanderbilt last fall, made a birdie on the par-5 No. 16 to finish T4 and earn a Tour card
Recent Vanderbilt graduate Matthew Riedel is heading to the PGA Tour.
Riedel finished T4 and 4-under with rounds of 68-69-67-72 to finish in the top five and earn his card at the PGA Tour Q-School Qualifying Final Stage at Dye's Valley Course and Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
The 24-year-old finished T2 at the 2024 SEC Championship in June and will now head to the PGA Tour.
Riedel began the day tied for the lead but quickly dropped out of the top five after going 3-over through 10 holes. Riedel went on to play the final eight holes in 1-under. He got the birdie he needed on the par-5 No. 16.
He laid up off the tee with iron, gave himself a full wedge in, and stuck the approach to within three feet for the birdie. Riedel scrambled well on No. 17, recovering from a bad drive to save par. He sank a five-foot par putt on No. 18 to secure his card.
Riedel played five seasons at Vanderbilt from 2019 to 2024 and was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference First Team selection in 2023 and 2024. He won his lone collegiate event at the 2022 SEC Match Play.
He finished No. 77 on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List in just 13 starts after he joined the Tour based on his finish on PGA TOUR University standings.
The lone amateur in the field, Jake Hall, finished T141 and 16-over with rounds of 72-80-72-72.
