Weed broke a five way tie heading into the final round, while Texas held off South Carolina to secure the team competition
Avery Weed of Mississippi State secured her first collegiate win in dramatic fashion at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., finishing 13-under with rounds of 65-70-68.
Her final round 4-under 68 included birdies on holes No. 16, 17, and 18 to get to 13-under and win by one shot.
Hannah Darling of South Carolina did not make it easy on Weed, recording four birdies in her last five holes to keep the pressure on the leader. Darling finished in solo second place at 12-under with rounds of 67-71-66.
After 36 holes, Weed was T1 along with Sara Im of Vanderbilt, Patience Rhodes of Arizona State, Caroline Melgrati of Arizona, and Louise Reau of Georgia Southern. Darling's final round of 6-under 66 saw her propel up the leaderboard towards the end of the championship.
Weed is currently ranked No. 337 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings and recently made the final 16 of the North & South Women's Amateur in June. Darling is ranked No. 14 and won the ANNIKA Intercollegiate last week to open the season.
The stellar Texas duo of Farah O'Keefe and Lauren Kim finished T3 at 11-under, and Patience Rhodes, Louise Reau, Carolina Melgrati, and Sara Im finished T5 at 10-under. 12 golfers finished within five shots of the winner.
In the team competition, Texas finished 31-under and held off South Carolina by six shots to win. South Carolina finished in solo second place at 25-under after winning the ANNIKA Intercollegiate by 27 shots to open the season.
Texas carded consistent team rounds of 278-277-278.
Northwestern finished in solo third place at 24-under, Arizona finished in solo fourth place at 23-under, and Arizona State and host school Vanderbilt finished T5 at 20-under.
