Richardson used an 8-under 64 in the second round to pull away from the field and secure the four-shot victory to start his summer

Presten Richardson showed impressive consistency to post a 14-under score and win the Oklahoma Stroke Play Championship at WinStar Golf Course in Thackerville, Ok.

The golfers had to deal with really strong winds of 25-30 miles per hour for the first two days. On the final day, the wind died down a bit, but it was swirling and made it hard to judge distances.

Richardson carded rounds of 67-64-68 to get to 14-under.

“Mentality,” Richardson said about how he stayed consistent. “From the conditions that we had to play in and the conditions of the course at the time of play, keeping my computer when an unfortunate break came my way was the key to bouncing back from bogeys and playing well.”

Richardson added, “Not getting too emotional on the course is always a decider of who can make the podium and hoist a trophy.”

C.J. Phillips finished in solo second place at 10-under, and Tres Hill finished in solo third place at 8-under. Mesa Falleur finished in solo fourth place at 5-under and Rhett Hughes, Blas Ayesa, and Benjamin Stoller all finished T5 at 4-under.

Richardson can now use this win to propel him into the rest of the summer as he tries his hand at the Missouri State Amateur soon.

“It is definitely a confidence boost,” Richardson said. “I've been close for a long time and have been getting great tournament results, but I couldn’t break the ice of winning.”

He added, “Now, it is just a reminder that it is very possible, and I have the game to win at every amateur level. I will be carrying the momentum from this tournament into next week's Missouri State Amateur.”
