Charlie Woods is heading to Michigan to play in his first USGA championship. Something his father knows a lot about.
Woods shot 1-under 71 at the U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifying at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla., to win medalist honors by one shot. He was the only golfer to shoot under par en route to winning the medalist honors.
He recorded five birdies, two bogeys, and one double bogey in the round. He was 1-under after the front nine with birdies on holes No. 5 and 8 and a bogey on No. 3, but he made a bogey on No. 10 and a double bogey on No. 11.
He bounced back nicely with birdies on holes No. 13, 15, and 16 to get to 1-under and earn the medalist honors by one shot.
Tiger Woods is one of the most accomplished amateur players ever, winning the 1991, 1992, and 1993 U.S. Junior Amateur and the 1994, 1995, and 1996 U.S. Amateur.
He is one of two golfers, along with Jordan Spieth, to win the U.S. Junior multiple times and the only three-time winner.
He is also the only golfer to win three U.S. Amateurs in a row. With his three U.S. Amateur wins, Woods is third all-time on the events win list behind the great Bobby Jones with five and Jerome Travers with four.
