Bandon Dunes celebrates 25th year anniversary
May 1, 2024 | by Pete Wlodkowski of AmateurGolf.com
On May 2, 1999, the first shots where struck on the Oregon Coast and a new era of American golf design was born
The first tee shots were struck at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on May 2, 1999. That day, the trajectory of American golf design changed thanks to the vision of owner Mike Keiser and an unknown Scottish golf architect named David McLay Kidd.
Today, the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort includes five award-winning 18-hole courses, two short courses, and enough lodging and dining options to make it a "get there and never leave" resort. Bandon Dunes is on your bucket list if you haven't played it.
AmateurGolf.com has run a tournament there for 23 straight years, and it's been amazing hearing the reactions of the many first-time players we have introduced to the resort.
I'm very lucky to be part of the 25th-anniversary celebration, and I hope to find the fairway when I hit the tee at 9:00 am on May 2, 2024. In anticipation of the event, we spent some time with David McLay Kidd on a recent AmateurGolf.com Podcast. The segment where we discuss Bandon Dunes' impact on his career is featured in this video.
