The No. 1 ranked senior in the world Royak continues his impressive golf and is looking to add to his resume
Bob Royak of Alpharetta, Ga., and Matthew Sughrue of Arlington, Va., share the lead after day one of the 2024 Chanticleer National Senior Invitational at Greenville Country Club, the Chanticleer Course, in Greenville, S.C.
Royak and Sughrue both shot rounds of 2-under 70 to take a one-shot lead. Jack Larkin Sr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Robert Sheats of Atlanta, Ga., are T3 at even par and two shots behind the leaders.
Larkin is coming off a win at the prestigious Jones Cup Senior Invitational.
Royak is currently ranked No. 1 in the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings and was named the 2023 AmateurGolf.com Senior Player of the Year.

Scott Ray of Central City, Ky., and Jack Hall of Savannah, Ga., are T5 at 1-over, and Rick Stimmel of Pittsburgh, Pa., is in solo seventh place at 2-over.
In the Super Senior Division, Keith Waters of Raleigh, N.C., Mike Poe of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Emile Vaughan of Pike Road, Ala. are all tied for the lead at 2-over after the first round.
James Pearson of Charlotte, N.C., is in solo fourth place at 3-over, and Steve Sharpe of Greensboro, N.C., and Rick Woulfe of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., are T5 at 4-over on a tightly contested leaderboard.
The Chanticleer National Senior Invitational started in 2011 with the vision that it would provide a superbly conditioned, very challenging course on which to present a premier invitational tournament for elite senior and super senior golfers recognized for their playing accomplishments on a national and international scale.
The limited field is determined from the pool of applicants, with preference given to players' performance in national and international events as well as the current rankings.
