Hayashida shot a bogey-free 6-under 66 to take a three-shot lead over the field into the final round
Joshua Hayashida leads the field by three shots at the Hawaii State Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Leilehua Golf Course at Schofield Barracks, Hi.
Hayashida is 8-under after rounds of 70-72-66 over the first three days.
The University of Hawaii sophomore recorded a bogey-free 6-under 66 to propel five spots up the leaderboard and into the solo lead.
Kolbe Irei and Remington Hirano are T2 at 5-under. Irei has shot rounds of 69-70-72, while Hirano has shot rounds of 69-69-73.
Dane Watanabe and Shion Suzuki are T4 at 3-under and Peter Jung is in solo sixth place at 2-under.
Hayashida has known success in this tournament, finishing T2 in 2021 and 2023 and T4 in 2022. He will look to get the job done this time around finally.
Hayashida racked up numerous junior golf accomplishments, being named the 2021 Hawai‘i State Golf Association Player of the Year, winning multiple Player of the Year titles in the Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association, and was a member of the HSGA Governors Cup team.
In the Women's Division, Kate Nakaoka leads the field at 5-under. She has shot impressive rounds of 68-72-71 through the first three rounds.
Alexa Takai is the only golfer within striking distance, as she is in solo second place at 3-under and two shots back of Nakaoka. Nakaoka finished T12 at the 2022 Arizona Silver Belle Championship.
In the Mid-Amateur Division, Matthew Ma holds a four-shot lead over the rest of the field at 1-under. Ma is the only mid-amateur golfer under par through the first three rounds.
Ma has shot rounds of 72-73-70 to get to 1-under. His third round 2-under 70 consisted of five birdies and three bogeys.
Spencer Shishido is in solo second place at 3-over, and Shawn Sakoda is in solo third place at 5-over.
Ma finished in solo eighth place at the 2021 Hawaii State Amateur, T6 in the 2020 Hawaii State Amateur, and in solo third place at the 2019 Hawaii State Amateur.
