Russell won by six shots after carding a final round 5-under 67 to close the door on the field
Jordan Russell ran away from the field and won the inaugural Snedeker Memorial at Lakewood Golf Club, the Dogwood Course, in Point Clear, Ala., by six shots.
The former Texas A&M golfer shot rounds of 70-69-67 to get to 10-under. His final round 5-under 67 included four birdies, an eagle, and just one bogey, coming on the final hole.
Bobby Wyatt finished in solo second place at 4-under, and Marc Dull finished in solo third place at 3-under.
In the team competition, John Hunter and Jordan Russell won by ten shots, finishing 10-under. Sean Rowan and Kenny Cook finished in solo second place at even par.
Russell made the semifinals of the 2011 U.S. Amateur at Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis. He defeated future U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau 5&3 in the Round of 32. He defeated the 2010 U.S. Amateur champion and future PGA Tour member Peter Uihlein 2&1 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals.
In 2012, Russell finished runner-up at the Western Amateur and second place solo at the Northeast Amateur. He also finished T18 in the 2012 Porter Cup.
Recently, Russell finished T4 at the 2022 International Mid-Amateur Team and Individual Championship.
The championship is a 54-hole individual stroke play with a simultaneous combined team score competition. Invited mid-amateur players propose their own partner to be introduced and approved by the Committee or can be paired with a partner by the Committee.
This event pays tribute to Larry and Candice Snedeker, whose love for the game of golf paved the way for their sons Haymes' and Brandt's successful careers both on and off the golf course. The event is played at The Lakewood Club in Point Clear, Alabama. Designed by Perry Maxwell in 1947 and recently renovated, Lakewood has played host to 3 USGA championships.
