The spring portion of the collegiate season begins with the 45th edition of the Southwestern Invitational hosted by Pepperdine at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., from Jan. 29 to Jan. 31, 2024.

The Southwestern Intercollegiate was started by USC in 1978. The schools co-hosted the event in 2013 and 2014. After a year without a tournament, Pepperdine then took over hosting duties in 2016 and merged it with its own home tournament, which had been played at a few different sites.

2024 Teams

Houston, San Jose State, Texas Tech, UCLA, Wake Forest, Ohio State, Pepperdine, California, Washington, San Diego State, UNLV, Colorado, and USC are all participating in the 2024 tournament. 

Past champions

Michael Brennan of Wake Forest won the 2023 individual medal. Sahith Theegala of Pepperdine (2017, 2020) and David Puig of Arizona State (2021, 2022) have both won twice. Other individual winners include Justin Suh of USC, Maverick McNealy of Stanford, Patrick Cantlay of UCLA, Anthony Kim of Oklahoma, and in 1996, Tiger Woods won the tournament while he was at Stanford.

Last Time

Texas went wire-to-wire to win the team title, while Wake Forest's Michael Brennan won the individual title. The Longhorns carded a 14-under team score of 850, which was good for a 13-shot win over host Pepperdine.

For Texas, Keaton Vo finished in solo second place, Jacob Sosa finished in solo third place, and Christiaan Mass finished T5 and led the Longhorns to their first team title since capturing the 2022 NCAA Championship in Scottsdale.

Pepperdine carded the lowest round of the final round with a 3-under 285 to move into solo second behind the Longhorns, followed by Arizona at 4-over, Oregon at 8-over
