The South African Mid-Am champion Moolman wins back to back titles
Louis Moolman of Pretoria Country Club fired a 17-under and secured victory over Scotland's Gregor Graham by two strokes, clinching the Gauteng North Open for his second consecutive title of the season at The Els Club, Copperleaf, in Centurion, South Africa.
Moolman posted rounds of 68-67-69-67, concluding with a total score of 17-under 281. In contrast, Graham carded rounds of 72-67-67-67, finishing as the runner-up with a total of 15-under 283.
Moolman, a former professional on the European Tour, entered the final round at 12-under, trailing Janko Van der Merwe by a shot, who held the 54-hole lead at 13-under. In the concluding round, Moolman posted a score of 67, marked by seven birdies, including a streak of three birdies from Holes No. 7 through 9. Although Moolman encountered bogeys on Holes No. 12 and 13, he quickly rebounded with birdies on Holes No. 15 and 16 to maintain his lead over the competition.
Whereas, Merwe carded rounds of 67-68-68-72 to finish third at 13-under par.
Just last week, Moolman secured victory in a playoff against Altin Van der Merwe, the 2023 AGC Mid-Am Player of the Year, to claim the Free State Open at Maccauvlei Golf Club in Vereniging, South Africa.
A total of 156 amateurs participated in the tournament, of whom 70 made the 36-hole cut.
