LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (Aug. 27, 2008)--After their opponents John Swigart and Mike Hyland carded a birdie on 18 to apply the pressure on the final day of the Merit Amateur, Chicago's Mike Affeldt finished off a two-putt birdie on the final hole to help him and teammate Erik Ciotti of Addison, IL score a two-day total of 20 points and take a two-point victory.
Defending champions Chris Beto and Eric Burch finished third with a total of 7 points.
The Merit Amateur is a two-man team, 54-hole event using the Stableford format. The first 18 holes each day are better ball, and the final nine each day are aggregate.
In the Senior Division, Dirk Anderson and David Huske came out on top with a two-day total of -5 beating the teams of Gus Kozina-Fred Lukasik and John Seehausen-Merritt Cook by just a total of one point.

Formerly known as the Merit Amateur, this is a two
day, multi-format event
that features rounds of
best-ball Stableford. 27 holes are played each day,
with
the final 9 holes each day the aggregate score of the
two players.
Handicap and age requirements are the same as for
the
USGA
Mid-Am and the USGA Senior Am. Field limit to 36
teams and will be considered by playing
resume. Merit Club hosted the 2000 U.S.
Women's Open.
