Did you know 43 percent of golf shots hit during a round are putts?
According to the SAM PuttLab's website, even with this statistic, most golfers are not using a putter with the correct specs built to fit them. They just grab one off the rack and take it to the course. You no longer have to do that with resources like Club Champion fitting from SAM PuttLab. At the urging of my editors (ok, maybe I urged them) I got assigned the task of experiencing a Club Champion putter fitting for myself.
I visited Club Champion's Del Mar, California location for the opportunity to get the SAM PuttLab and met with fitter Rich Hernandez to find a putter best suited to my needs and his specific putting stroke. Using SAM, short for Science and Motion, Hernandez analyzed my putting stroke to find out exactly which putter suits me best. Of course, it's more than just technology -- Rich has fitted hundreds of players and used his watchful eye to help with the entire process.
Rich looked at his rotation relative to the path and found out whether I needed a face balanced, toe hang, mallet, blade, or any other type of putter based on the data provided from my stroke.
According to its website, SAM PuttLab is the complete putting solution. It is easy to set up and calibrate and has extremely accurate data, comprehensive analysis, and customizable reports. It is the only system on the market that considers technique and consistency to evaluate a player’s performance profile.
One of the best qualities of the SAM PuttLab and the Club Champion fitting process is the quickness with which you get the results. I got my specs from the Lab by email within two hours of getting fitted and received his new Scotty Cameron putter in the mail after just a few days. That is only 48 hours from his fitting to sinking 8-footers on the course.
Now, it's up to me to take my new Scotty Cameron putter on the course and watch my handicap fall. I won't be able to blame the putter if it doesn't.
