In the Boy's Division, four are tied for the lead, including Auburn commit Billy Davis.
Michael Riebe of Encinitas, California, Kihei Akina of Kahuku, Hawaii, Jake Albert of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Billy Davis of Spring Valley, California, share the Boys Division Rolex Tournament of Champions lead at 3-under-par 141 for the tournament.
This year's Rolex Tournament of Champions features 80 players competing over four-days for the coveted year-end title. The field includes 45 players committed to play college golf, 67 past AJGA champions and 65 Rolex Junior All-Americans.
2023 AJGA Player Representative to the Board of Directors Koo moved up three spots on the leaderboard into first place. The current senior started slow off No. 10 where she recorded a bogey on No. 13 and bounced back with a birdie on No. 15. As she turned over to her second nine a clean card aided by birdies on hole Nos. 6-8 moved her into the solo lead.
Koo is looking for her second invitational win this year. She took home the AJGA Invitational presented by PING back in October. The University of Southern California commit is a three-time Rolex Junior All-American, currently No. 4 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.
First-round leader Aphrodite Deng of (Canada) Short Hills, New Jersey, is in solo second at 2-under-par 142. Lisa Herman of Jenks, Oklahoma, Alice Ziyi Zhao of (China) Irvine, California, and Ryleigh Knaub of Debary, Florida, round out the top-5 at 1-under-par 143.
He opened his day on No. 10 with a birdie and followed it up with another on No. 11. A bogey on No. 14 set him back a stroke but he quickly bounced back with a birdie on No. 15. As he turned to his back-nine he went bogey-free with birdies on Nos. 6 and 7.
Davis is looking for his second invitational win this year. The 2024 graduate won the inaugural Mayakoba Invitational this past April.
Kihei Akina also jumped up the leaderboard with his second round play. His 3-under-par 69 second round moved him up five spots on the leaderboard. The highlight of Akina's day came on No. 17 where he eagled the 335 yard par 4. He was the only player in the field today to eagle No. 17. This is Akina's first Rolex Tournament of Champions appearance.
Michael Riebe and Jake Albert each put up 2-under-par 70 second rounds to share the lead with Akina and Davis. Riebe and Albert also each moved up two spots on the leaderboard.
Riebe, a Vanderbilt University commit, is making his Rolex Tournament of Champions debut this week. He is looking for his first invitational win after a semifinalist finish at the Polo Golf Junior Classic this past summer.
Albert won his first AJGA invitational this past August at the Jack Burke Jr. Invitational. The 2025 graduate is verbally committed to play at Auburn University alongside fellow leader, Davis.
Gerardo Gomez of (Mexico) Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, and Phillip Dunham of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, round out the group of boys under par for the tournament at 1-under-par 143.
