In a summer that was already memorable, Maxwell Moldovan of Uniontown, Ohio is now going to play in his first PGA Tour event.

The rising senior at Ohio State has already stamped his name in the record books in Columbus, as he finished the past two seasons with the lowest scoring average in school history.

Now Moldovan has earned a spot at the Barbasol Championship through Monday's open qualifier, carding 7 under 65 at Boone's Trace National Golf Club to earn one of four available spots in this week's field at Keene Trace.

Moldovan also qualified for last month's U.S. Open and proceeded to make the cut. He also played the 2022 U.S. Open as a qualifier.

Moldovan was 1 under through his first six holes and then his round was jumpstarted on No. 7 with a hole-out eagle on the par-4. He made six birdies, one eagle and just one bogey, on No. 18, on his round.

University of Florida alum Chris Nido (Miami, Fla.) carded 8-under 64 to take medalist honors at the Barbasol Championship qualifier; this will mark his fourth TOUR start of the season.

Three players finished at 6 under 66 -- Chip McDaniel (Lexington, Ky.), Matt Sharpstene (Asheville, N.C.) and Daniel Iceman (Shelbyville, Ky.) -- requiring a 3-for-2 playoff for the final two spots in the field. McDaniel and Sharpstene earned the qualifying spots, with Iceman the odd man out.

McDaniel, who gained notoriety for his Monday qualifying acumen on the PGA TOUR in 2019, has since assumed a role as assistant men's golf coach at his alma mater, the University of Kentucky.

Sharpstene, who advanced to the semifinals of the 2020 U.S. Amateur, concluded his college career at UNC-Charlotte in 2022. This will mark his second TOUR start, as he competed in the 2021 U.S. Open as an amateur.
