John and Joseph Latowski's 10-under par 36 hole score enough for one-hole victory at Disney World

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 27, 2008)--John and Joseph Latowski posted a tournament total of 10-under par 134 to win the Florida State Parent-Child Championship at the Walt Disney World Golf Resort in Orlando on July 26-27. This annual State Championship attracted more than 150 teams competing in a Regular and Junior Division. In the Regular Division, the father and son Latowski pair from Port St. Lucie, edged out the field by one stroke to top the Mickey Mouse Championship Flight. In the first round, the Latowski duo made ten birdies and only one bogey to fire a 63 and take a two-stroke lead heading into the final round. The pair recorded a 71 in the final round to secure their first ever Parent-Child Championship. Last year, the Latowski’s took third place. Two teams tied for second in the flight at 135 including the 2004 Parent-Child Champions Bret and Bryce Voisin. The Voisin’s, of Orlando, shot a 66-69 to share second place with Gary and John Pettit, of Tampa, who carded a 65-70. In the Mickey Mouse First Flight, Evan and Jeff Fleeman, of Auburndale, tied with James Smith, of Altamonte Springs, and James Smith, of Casselberry, after each team finished at 142. John and Jack Hulsberg, of St. Augustine, won the Mickey Mouse Second Flight shooting a 76-70—146. The Winter Park team of Michael and Charles Kovaleski topped the Regular Division Donald Duck Championship Flight with scores of 69-70—139. Kyle and Gene Schulte, from Cape Coral, claimed second in the flight finishing two strokes back from the leading team. In the Donald Duck First Flight, Cesar and CJ Pellerano, of Miami Lakes, and Jeff and Scott Haire, of Windermere, tied for top honors with each team recording an 80-75—155. Charlie Taylor, of Orange Park, and Charles Taylor, from Middleburg, captured the Donald Duck Second Flight with a 162 total. Colton and Ken Godwin prevailed in a playoff to win the 10-12 age division. The father and son team from Ocala finished with 56 stableford points as did Blake and Kevin Dyer, from St. Petersburg. The Godwin’s emerged as the Champions on the fifth playoff hole. In the 8-9 age division, Greg and Ryan Hicks, of Clearwater, earned 57 stableford points to secure the division title as John and John Driscoll, from Ormond Beach, gained 46 points for the 6-7 age division win. The Parent-Child Championship is the largest Florida State Golf Association administered event. Since 1997, the Walt Disney World Resort has hosted the Parent-Child Championship and once again, the resort’s Palm and Magnolia Courses and the Oak Trail executive course was used for the two divisions. The Parent-Child Championship has become an annual event for many families. The tournament is open to everyone, including grandparents who want to play with a grandchild and professionals who want to compete with their child or grandchild. There is no maximum age limitation for the parent or child. The event consists of two divisions; junior and regular. In the junior division, the child must be between 6-12 years of age, and in the regular division the child must be 13 or older. The junior division played the Oak Trail executive course in 9 holes of modified alternate shot format using the Stableford scoring each day. The regular division is split on the Palm and Magnolia and played 36 holes of modified alternate shot. The field is divided based upon the combined handicaps of the teams and flighted after 18 holes. --Courtesy FSGA
