PEBBLE BEACH (June 28, 2005) --Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery.

Michael Ostrich came to Spyglass Hill with little confidence after a final-round meltdown at the Sacramento City Championship Sunday. He leaves not only as the Public Links Champion, but as a player with a renewed assurance of his game.

"This feels great," said Ostrich. "It is wonderful to win at Spyglass. This is huge for me, I want to build on this victory."

Ostrich entered the final round tied with Trent Tessler one stroke behind leader Jim Knoll. Birdies on Nos. 1, 4 and 7 helped distance the Sacramento resident from the pack. After the round, Ostrich acknowledged the significance of his first nine holes, "It was very important to get off to a good start. The last five holes don't fit my eye at all so I needed to play well on the front side."

The 20-year-old put together a 1-under-par 71 that looked much lower on a day when the field averaged more than 77 strokes for the round. First-round leader Knoll slipped into a tie for second place at 145 with Defending champion Gary Young. In the playoff, both players made par on Nos. 1 and 2 before Knoll drained a 20-foot birdie putt to take second place alone.

In the President's Flight (handicap indexes 4.5 to 12) Steve Wilcsinszky came from behind to capture first place honors with a 72-66--138 total. Justin Portz of Lemore (68-74--142) and John Lavaroni of La Contenta (74-69--143) came in second and third respectively. Thanh Tran of Pin High rolled in the Director's Flight (handicap indexes 11.7 to 40.4) with a 68-72--140 showing. Mike Shepard of Whitney Oaks was second at 74-68--142 and Sandy Boyd, EWGA-SMN Handicap was third at 78-67--145. Following are complete results:
