Any guesses on the one piece of equipment used by so many pros and all four major winners in 2022? And no, it's not a golf ball.
With so many players on the PGA Tour opting to go without club deals, it’s becoming more and more interesting to watch the equipment trends on Tour. It’s hard to think that there is a manufacturer out there that makes 14 individual clubs that are absolutely optimal for a Professional, so many players are foregoing sponsorship deals to ensure they can play the equipment that they think gives them the best chance at winning each week.
With that being the case, you might be surprised to learn that there is a single piece of equipment that has proven to be successful for most Tour players. In fact, more than 80% of players on the PGA Tour all trust this one piece of equipment every week. It was used to win all four majors in 2022 and to capture the first Major of 2023. It was used in 75% of Tour wins last season and we wouldn’t be surprised if that percentage was even higher this season.
Any guesses?
Spiked Footwear.
Compared to spikeless shoes, golf shoes with replaceable traction elements, or spikes, have been independently proven to increase distance, reduce dispersion and improve consistency. ‘How is that possible?’ you may ask? The solid footing provided by wearing replaceable spikes helps golfers find the center of the club face more consistently.
Before a Tour pro makes a change in equipment, they typically have a rigorous testing protocol to ensure the data supports that the new product is going to outperform their previous model. Footwear, and spikes, are no exception.
Softspikes, the No. 1 Spike on Tour, recently released a new model – the Tour Flex Pro. It was developed to deliver Tour-level traction and built to meet the needs for the best players in the world. The design was derived from elements of the most popular models being used by Tour Players and the adoption rate on the PGA Tour has been nothing shy of incredible.

Tour Flex Pro
In its first week on Tour, the Tour Flex Pro was used by 25% of the field and trusted by the winner of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The following week Tour Flex Pro was used to capture another win and just over 30% of the field. In the weeks since, the adoption rate has continued to climb and recently more than 42% of players harnessed the power of Tour Flex Pro at the RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island.
If you’re looking for an extra edge or its time to change your spikes (every 15 rounds!), Tour Flex Pro can be purchased at most golf retailers and golf course pro shops across the country. Spikes can also be purchased online from a variety of ecommerce sites or directly from www.softspikes.com.
