Georgia Tech surges to the front at The Goodwin

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets countered the unseasonably cool spring temperatures in the Bay Area didn't with a red-hot second round at The Goodwin being held at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.

Behind a 66 from Ross Steelman and a 67 from Christo Lamprecht, the sixth-ranked Yellow Jackets shot a 10-under team score of 270 on Friday and will take a one-stroke lead over Oklahoma into Saturday's final round on the venerable San Francisco course on the bluffs overlooking Lake Merced.

The Yellow Jackets also counted subpar rounds from Connor Howe (68) and Bartley Forrester (69) to surge to the top of the leaderboard.

Behind a second-round 67 by Harrison Kingsley, San Diego turned in a 10-under round of its own to match the Yellow Jackets for the low round of the day and at 6-under 554, is seven shots behind Georgia Tech heading into Saturday's final round.

No. 13 Oklahoma turned in another solid round with a 7-under 548 at will go head-to-head with the Yellow Jackets for the team title tomorrow.

Host Stanford, which held the first-round lead at 7-under par, struggled to a 3-over 283 on Saturday and is nine back of Georgia Tech with 18 holes remaining.

Washington's Bo Peng and Oklahoma's Ben Lorenz are tied for the individual lead at 6-under 134 while Georgia Tech teammates Ross Steelman (-5) and Christo Lamprecht (-4) are on their tails.

Georgia Tech will look to nail down its first victory of 2022-23 when it tees off at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time Saturday.

54 hole men's college tournament hosted by Stanford University that honors former Stanford head coach Wally Goodwin, who elevated the program during his tenure of 1987 to 2000 by recruiting players like Notah Begay and Tiger Woods. Team (best four scores out of five players each round) and individual competitions.
