How to clean your backyard putting green to keep it in A+ shape in 30 minutes

Springtime is THE time to clean and prep your backyard putting green. You likely have all the tools for this three-step process
A backyard putting green is on the wish list of just about every golfer whether it be an amateur or professional. While navigating the pandemic and finding new ways to practice, that wish came true for more people than ever before as at-home putting green sales skyrocketed. If you’re one of those fortunate enough to be rolling putts at your humble abode, you’re likely also the person that maintains your putting green. Are you properly cleaning your investment?
AmateurGolf.com’s very own Pete Wlodkowski shares with you his three-step method for cleaning your backyard putting green to keep it in tip-top shape.
Step 1: Remove Large Debris
Depending on where you live, and the time of year, you’re going to get some larger impediments on your putting green. Larger leaves, rocks, and other items can easily be removed by hand as you don’t want them going into your vacuum cleaner.
Step 2: Use a Shop Vac
Let your shop vac do all of the initial, heavy cleanings. Utilize the different attachments to comb through any fringe or rough you may have installed. The purpose of the shop vac is to get many of the smaller pieces of gravel or dirt that you don’t want going into your regular vacuum. Be sure to use the shop vac in your holes as well.
Step 3: Use a Regular Vacuum
Now that you’ve removed all of the big stuff, use your regular house vacuum to finish the job. After all, it’s basically a carpet. The rotational brush will grab anything fine and keep it from collecting in the fibers of your putting green.
It’s important to note that if you live in an area where ice and snow plague you in the winter, covering your outdoor putting green during the winter can help maintain its appearance and durability for the remainder of the year.
