When you find a set of wedges that work for you, it’s difficult to stray from them. Confidence in precision shots around the green is invaluable and having your highest lofted clubs working in tandem with your shot thoughts can be the difference maker in your round.

While at the 2023 PGA Show in Orlando, we came across the new lineup of Snakebite wedges from King Cobra. It includes a model built for more advanced players with the standard Snakebite and a model designed for the masses with the Snakebite X (available mid-March). In addition, the popular One Length genre from Cobra also includes its own Snakebite wedges. The Snakebite tour was given to us by Cobra PUMA Vice President of Marketing, Jose Miraflor.

KING COBRA SNAKEBITE WEDGES

Available Finishes: Chrome, Black
Grinds: Classic, Versatile, Wide Low
Lofts: 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60
Stock Shafts: KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 (steel), UST Recoil 65 (graphite)

If you didn’t know this already, you soon will: Cobra makes an incredible wedge. When filling out the bottom of your golf bag, there are a few companies you automatically look to because of their reputation. Cobra should be among your demos in 2023 because we’re confident the new King Cobra Snakebite wedges will earn a top spot for you.

Available in chrome or black finishes, the Snakebite wedges have you covered from 48 to 60 degrees of loft. So if you’re looking to replace your pitching wedge, lob wedge, or appropriately gap anything in-between, there’s a model to hit your desired number.

This model is built for the mid to low-handicap player that wants precision and performance from their wedge shots. Forgiveness is a bit less present in the King Cobra Snakebite, but the benefits of being around the middle of the clubface easily outweigh some slight dispersion that the mid-handicap will encounter. The buttery feeling at impact is thanks to the coolest named grooves in all of golf, “Snakebite Grooves.”

“The brand new Snakebite Grooves mean sharper edges, wider volumes inside to channel away debris, and even a brand new blast which helps you in wet conditions,” said Miraflor. “So you don’t lose that spin you’re trying to create with your wedge.”

Traditional grooves are available on lofts of 48, 50, 52, and 54 degrees. If you’re into full-face grooves, you’ll find those on 56, 58, and 60-degree models.

All of the above is innovative and pays dividends, but we’re all in on the three grind options on the King Cobra Snakebite.

Versatile Grind: If you like to open the face of your wedge, this is your grind. It gives you heel and toe relief while the center notch keeps the leading edge close to the turf. Intended for medium and firm conditions.

Wide Low Grind: This low-bounce grind works wonders out of soft bunkers. If you’re a digger with a wedge, the Wide Low helps alleviate those chunky, heavy wedge shots. Intended for soft and medium turf.

Classic Grind: The best of both worlds and works for every player. The Classic Grind marries all turf conditions with its medium sole and is best for longer wedge shots.

KING COBRA SNAKEBITE ONE LENGTH WEDGES

Available Finishes: Chrome, Black
Grind: Versatile
Lofts: 48, 52, 54, 56, 60
Stock Shafts: KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 (steel), UST Recoil 65 (graphite)

If you’ve ever been curious about how Cobra’s famous One Length series works, it’s quite simple. All irons are the length of a standard 7-iron which is 37.50”, even the King Cobra Snakebite wedges. Lofts and lies are adjusted accordingly per club to create a full set that’s consistent and easy to swing.

Many of the same technological aspects carry over from the standard Snakebite wedge to the One Length. It has the Snakebite Grooves, the same stock shafts, and both black and chrome finish options. The main difference is that the One Length Snakebite wedges are only available in the Versatile grind, and with full-face grooves. This is by design, however, to allow the additional length to pair with ideal spin and performance. If you’re already in on the One Length scene, continuing through your wedges is a must.

KING COBRA SNAKEBITE X

Coming in mid-March of 2023, the King Cobra Snakebite X is the company’s latest gift to the mid to high-handicap player. While the standard Snakebite wedge is designed for players that can control their short game a bit more, the Snakebite X is for those of us that want as much help as possible.

Forgiveness is in the air with the Snakebite X. By design, it’s going to give you the extra help you need to splash out of bunkers and pop out of greenside rough like a pro. The “X” stands for “extreme” and you’ll get it in just about every category with this club.

“It has a brand new tier drop shape on the sole and It’s wider with a softer camber,” said Miraflor. “This is going to help people get out of bunkers really easily.”If you’re a more accomplished player, however, don’t automatically eliminate the Snakebite X from your list. The benefits of the additional forgiveness, plus a sleek cavity back design doesn’t scream “game improvement iron” at you. Cobra did an excellent job designing something for the masses that also has the craftsmanship and detail of something you’d find on tour.
