An event dominated by Team USA in the past has been turned on its head after two days in Spain. 12 singles matches remain
Day 2 consisted of six foursomes matches. The alternate shot format proved beneficial for the Europeans, as they won four matches on the way to racking up a 4.5 of the six points available.
The lone bright spot for the U.S. team was a 2&1 victory by Mike McCoy and Rusty Strawn over Mattias Pernheden and Martin Birkolz. The senior duo ran out to a 4-up lead after seven holes and never looks back.
Matthew Mattare and Evan Beck earned a half point for the U.S.A. However, they let a victory slip through their fingers. They had a 2-up lead on the 17th hole and lost the final two holes against Moises Cobo and Leon Breimer.
Team Europe will head into the third and final day with an 8.5-3.5 lead. The match is still anyone's to win, however, Team Europe boasts the U.S. Mid-Am champion, Matthew McClean and the U.S. Senior Am giant slayer, Stephen Jensen. Jensen reached the quarterfinals at Kittansett and defeated Mike McCoy and Gene Elliott in a single day. All twelve players will compete in singles matches, meaning half the available points of the competition are still up for grabs.
