2022 U.S. Women's Amateur qualifying roundup
Qualifying is complete at 25 sites in the U.S. and Canada for the 122nd U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, to be played Aug. 8-14 at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Wash.

1497 entries were received for the championship, which was just off the record set in 2021. Among the entries is Jensen Castle, who completed an improbable run as a 63rd seed who survived a 12-for-2 playoff just to reach match play.

Cassie Kim medaled at three-under par at Lake Spanaway Golf Course in Tacoma, Wash. Her round of three-under par beat 60 other players for five spots. The rising Gonzaga senior qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur last year, finishing 65th at Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y.. A three-for-four playoff at one-under par rounded out the final day of qualifying.

A six-for-three showdown for the final spots highlighted the play at the Creeks Course of Indian Creek Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas. Ellie Roth, Faith Belmear, and Mason Lewis earned spots from the playoff at one-over par. Rising Baylor junior Britta Snyder, who finished runner-up at the NCAA Women's Central Regional in May, medaled with a two-under par 70. She posted six birdies to earn the top spot on the leaderboard.

July 18

It's a summer of qualifier medaling for rising Pepperdine sophomore Lauren Gomez. She took control early at the qualifier hosted at the Country Club of Rancho in San Diego, Calif., by birdieing her first four holes. Gomez closed out her stellar five-under par 67 with a birdie and eagle on the 14th and 15th, respectively. Anna Feng won a one-for-four playoff for the last of seven spots at even par.

Even par got it done at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. Alison Takamiya medaled with three birdies and three bogeys. The 19-year-old's last birdie came on the par 4 17th to break away from a tie for second. One-over par earned the final two spots from the 27-player field.

Only one player finished under par at Mission Inn Resort & Club- El Campeon in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. ChingTzu Chen shot a bogey-free two-under par round 70 to medal. Tunrada Piddon and Sarah Kahn won out of a two-for-three playoff at three-over par to round out the four qualifiers.

July 13

Four players qualified out of Kenwood Golf & Country Club in Bethesda, Md. as Sarah Lydic shard co-medalist honors with Hsin Tai Lin at one-over par. Lydic birdied in a row on the second through the fourth to fueling her co-medalist effort. Tai Lin posted two birdies and three bogeys for her 71. Tiffany Kong survived a three-for-one playoff for the last spot at three-over par.

Nika Ito followed up qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open by winning her qualifier at Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Ito went bogey-free for medalist round of 67. Alexandra Gazzoli survived a four-for-one playoff following her three-under par round for the last of five qualifying spots.

Molly Smith earned medalist honors at Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord, Mass. as the only player to shoot under par. Her three-under round of 69 beat a four-way tie for runner-up by three strokes. Impressively, those four players rounded out the final four qualifying spots available.

Twenty-five players battled for two spots at Salisbury CC in Midlothian, Va. JiaCheng Emma Tang, a verbal commit to Navy, earned medalist honors with a bogey-free 67.

July 8

Only a stroke separated medaling or going into a playoff for the five qualifying spots at Saginaw Country Club in Saginaw, Mich. Brooklyn Millard and Adie Maki co-medaled at one-under par, and five players went into a playoff for three spots to round out the qualifiers.

Mia Hammond medaled with a five-under 67 at Walnut Grove Country Club in Daytona, Ohio, taking the first of five qualifying spots of the 48-player field. Hammond went five-under on the back nine. Impressively, she did most of her scoring at the end. Hammond closed birdie, eagle, par, birdie, to win by three. Aneka Seumanutafa and Annabelle Pancake emerged out of a two-for-four playoff for the final spots.

Seven players advanced from the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C., as Ty Akabane medaled at four-under par 67. She broke away with a four birdie in five hole charge from the third through the seventh. Amanda Sambach won a one-for-three playoff with a birdie on the second hole for the last spot.

Seven players advanced out of La Rinconada Country Club in Los Gatos, Ca., with 2021 Dick McGuire Invitational winner Kaleiya Romero and Ryan Flynn emerging out of a two-for-three playoff at one-over par for the final two spots. 2022 The Bruzzy Challenge winner Sabrina Iqbal birdied three of the last six holes for her two-under round of 68 to co-medal with Megan Yang. Yang went four-under on the par 4s to punch her ticket to the U.S. Women's Amateur.

A one-for-seven playoff broke out at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, Az. with Ailis Tribolet winning on the fifth extra hole for the sixth and final spot. Abbey Schutte medaled at three-under par, going bogey free on the back nine for her round of 69.

July 6

The 2022 Australian Women's Amateur winner keeps it rolling with another victory. Fiona Xu medaled at Gus Wortham Park Golf Course with a bogey-free five-under 66 to take the first of six spots available in Houston. Five players carded 69s to finish T4, going to extra holes for three spots.

West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville, Ga., hosted 59 players for five spots. Five players finished under par. Kelsey Bennett and Casey Weidenfeld co-medaled, each carding five birdies and a bogey for their four-under rounds of 67.

Katie Li survived a four-for-one playoff at Lake Forest Country Club in Hudson, Ohio for the fourth and final qualifying spot out of the 45 player field. Li overcame a double bogey on the ninth for a two-under 70, posting a clean card the rest of her round. Melanie Green medaled at 68, going two under on the par 3s for her four-under par round. Green qualified for the U.S. Women's Open earlier this year.

Five players advanced out of a field of 52 at Victory Links Golf Course in Blaine, Minn. Grace Curran birdied the last to earn medalist honors with a 68.

Brooke Biermann posted six birdies in her medalist winning five-under par 68 at the par 73 Kishwaukee Country Club in DeKalb, Il. She leads six players qualifying for the U.S. Women's Amateur.

University of Arkansas commit Reagan Zibilski (Springfield, Mo.) led a group of four players advancing from Eagle Bend GC in Lawrence, Kansas.

The lone qualifier held in Canada was played at Maple Downs Golf & Country Club in Ontario, and three players overcame tough scoring conditions to punch their tickets to Chambers Bay, led by Texas Tech commit Lauren Zaretsky.

A field of 74 players teed it up at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo, Calif., and seven players advanced with rounds in the 60s. The co-medalists were Brianna Navarrosa (San Diego, Calif.) and Catherine Park (Irvine, Calif.) with 4-under 67s, with former California Women's champion Leigh Chien (Irvine, Calif.) among those making it through on the number at 69.

In the first of the 25 U.S. Women's Amateur qualifiers, University of Virginia rising junior Jennifer Cleary (Wilmington, Del.) shot a 2-under 70 to lead a group of six qualifiers at Crestmont Country Club in West Orange, New Jersey. Three internationals -- Justice Bosio of Australia, Nicole Abelar of the Philippines, and Tomi Arejola of the Philippines -- advanced to the championship. Jennifer Rosenberg (Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) took the final qualifying spot in a 4-for-1 playoff.
