Michael Flynn tops 2007 State Am runner-up Joe Greiner after record-setting first round

OXNARD, Calif. (July 13, 2008)--After a course-record 65 at the River Ridge Golf Club, Michael Flynn cooled of a bit, but was still able to wrap up a 4-stroke victory over 2007 California State Amateur runner-up Joe Greiner and Andrew Ok. Flynn, an Oxnard native, finished at 4-under 140 over two days. I live down the street, so it's good to win in my hometown," Flynn told the Ventura County Star. "I was actually fairly comfortable throughout the whole tournament. "I came in confident. I shot the course record on Tuesday (65) and I came in putting pretty well. It was more of a struggle today (with the putter), but I made the ones when I needed to." The match was even closer than the score indicates, with Greiner breathing down Flynn's neck until a double-bogey on 17 let the champ breathe a bit easier. Joey Seiler won the net flight with a score of 152, while Chong Kim of Goleta took the senior flight with a total of 1-over 145.
