Every week on Tour, Callaway staffers like Xander Schauffele stick their Callaway wedges from the fairway, from the bunkers, and off of tour-tight lies that would make most of us buckle over in fear. They trust the precision instruments in their bag (plus the hands of a surgeon) to turn their misses into pars, or even better, to go for par-5s from anywhere knowing that they can get up and down.
These players change wedges frequently, accounting for the wear and tear that comes with playing and practicing week in and week out. But they need a little more convincing before going with a new model or grind.
Slide through the sand with Jaws Raw It's a good thing that Callaway has wedge legend Roger Cleveland behind the scenes listening to player feedback, and turning that information into new wedge models. The latest in a very successful run in the "Jaws" wedge line is Jaws Raw, featuring the most aggressive grooves Callaway has ever produced as well as a forgiving shot-maker's wedge.
For Callaway staffers Xander and Marc Leishman it was love at first sight.
And it wasn't just those two -- there were nine in play at The Memorial – and that's before the official debut of Jaws Raw following the U.S. Open at The Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.
If you're looking for some fresh metal in the bag, take a look at Jaws Raw. Here are a few product details including info on how and when you can order a set of your own.
JAWS RAW HIGHLIGHTS
For the first time ever, Callaway is bringing tungsten technology to a wedge for a weight-balanced club that offers both feel and control.
Jaws Raw also includes the all-new “Z Grind” that Roger Cleveland developed as a more forgiving shot maker’s wedge. It’s one of four updated grinds available in the new line, which includes 17 loft/bounce combinations and two stunning finishes.
THE TECH SPECS
Spin, spin, and more spin -- from everywhere
- Razor-sharp grooves, with a 37° wall angle to elevate the groove-edge sharpness.
From 80 yards and in, these grooves promote the Tour (and better amateur) preferred "one hop and stop" trajectory.
- A new raw face, which allows for rusting over
time in the scoring zone, while maintaining the premium look throughout the rest of
the clubhead. Removing the plating enables a more direct connection between the
ball and the face at impact. This dual finish is going to look amazing as the wedges break in.
- Offset Groove-in-Groove Technology. Callaway positioned the milled micro-grooves at a 20°
angle, promoting added spin on chips, pitches, and lob shots.
- A muted toe pad on the face reduces glare at address.
The body finish stays clean, while the face rusts for spin Tungsten weight-balanced designed, in a wedge
- The Pitch, Gap, Sand, and Lob Wedges have been meticulously crafted to enhance their specific performance benefits. This is the first time that Tungsten has been used in a Callaway wedge.
- On the sand and lob wedges, to center the CG position for control and feel.
- Variable-length hosels are engineered
to control trajectory while enhancing forgiveness.
Versatility and Shot Making with 17 Loft / Bounce Options Per Finish
The all-new Z grind is a more forgiving low bounce option, with an aggressive leading-edge
chamfer that improves turf interaction. This chamfer acts as a “skid plate” to help reduce digging
on chip and pitch shots. All sand and lob wedge grinds also feature a leading-edge chamfer that
is designed to reduce digging.
Along with the all-new Z grind, the comprehensive Jaws Raw lineup includes Callaway's standard S, the wide sole W, and the high bounce X grind, providing 17 loft and bounce combinations per finish.
Wedges for every type of player
In designing the Jaws Raw, legendary wedge maker Roger Cleveland has created a classic
design, with a straighter leading edge and a smooth hosel connection that removes any notch
near the heel. This is feedback straight from the Tour, so golfers everywhere can enjoy Tourlevel wedge performance.
