Duo fires 66-68 to go 10-under and capture The National Invitational for the second time

Tyler Crawford and Joe Sanders overtook first-round leaders Johnathan Schnitzer and Greg Pipkin to capture a two-shot win at The National Invitational at Whisper Rock. Their victory in the Mid-Amateur division is their second, and first since 2017.

Finishing at 10 under for the tournament, the winning pair posted scores of 66-68 at each of Whisper Rock's courses. Schnitzer and Pipkin, who led the field by two after their opening 64, took solo second place after an even-par final round and narrowly avoided a five-way tie for third place at 7-under.

The duo's new crown adds to each of their individual mid-amateur resumes, as well. Crawford, of Bermuda Dunes, Calif., recently took second at the Kelly Cup in Burbank -- a tournament he won in 2017. Later that same year, he famously won the Stocker Cup with borrowed clubs.

Sanders, a long-time mid-amateur player in Nevada who owns roughly a dozen state association championships, is now a Bee Cave, Tex. resident and has been medalist at three different USGA qualifying tournaments, most notably the 2010 U.S. Open locals.

Senior champions Jim Landi and David LeVan
In the Senior division, Jim Landi and David LeVan scored their first title at The National, a slim one-shot victory over Brad Wayment and Joe Sposi, with whom they shared the first-round lead.

LeVan is coming off a top-20 finish at the Golfweek Senior Amateur, and was victorious at the Michigan Senior Match Play last summer.

Taking third place and owning the lowest final-round score in their flight was Jim Strickland and Greg Cesario. Strickland won the mid-am division with partner Joe Bendetti in 2011.
