Georgia signee earns his first AJGA victory one year after his twin brother won the same tournament
The University of Georgia signee fired rounds of 70-68-69-66 to finish five strokes clear of the field. Ford held on to his third round one-stroke lead, carding four birdies on the back nine, including one on the 72nd hole, to capture his first AJGA win since 2018.
“I hit it really well all day and putted well too,” said Ford. “It was probably one of the better rounds I've played in my life. I think it's more special to win here than it is to win on a non-PGA Tour course. I might see this course somewhere down the road if I'm lucky. It feels really good to win and it's a lot of validation knowing that I can play a course this challenging, this tight and with this fast of greens."
It also marks the first time in 21 years that a set of siblings has won the same event in back-to-back years. The last siblings to accomplish the feat were sisters Naree and Aree Song Wongluekiet at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship in 1999 and 2000 respectively.
Carter Loflin of Duluth, Georgia, finished in second place after carding the low round of the day at 4-under-par 66 along with Ford. The Univerisity of Georgia verbal commit had 16 bogey-free holes and 18 birdies over four rounds, helping him secure his second top-five finish of 2021 at 2-under-par 278.Maxwell Ford seals the deal #WyndhamInvitational
