Golf Genius: Why we chose it for tournament management
January 1, 2021 | by Pete Wlodkowski of AmateurGolf.com

The low profile golf company with a huge impact is now the official tournament software provider of AmateurGolf.com
What's in a name?
For Golf Genius, it's everything. As a tournament director and the owner of AmateurGolf.com, I have been amazed at how a product nobody had heard of 10 years ago is known, and used, by anyone that plays serious amateur golf.
It's so ubiquitous that I have suggested to the company that their tagline should be "The operating system of tournament golf," but everyone already knows that.
Because if you play tournament golf at any level, from club and league events, to city championships and even USGA "majors" you've used the product. Golf Genius is No. 1, and at AmateurGolf.com we have the numbers -- and internal use cases -- to back that claim up.
But we often forget, when looking at market leading companies, that becoming number one is only part of the challenge. To stay number one, and extend your leadership position, you need to forge new features, and identify problems to solve before your customers know they have them.
Being in the right place at the right time doesn't hurt either. And who would have known that along with terms like "work from home" and "Zoom meetings" would come technology solutions that benefit our leisure activities as well.
Golf Genius didn't merely react to the Covid-19 pandemic; their technology solutions were already being adopted by the USGA, state and regional golf associations, and major golf tournaments everywhere. Covid-19 just accelerated the adoption of the software, and features like mobile score entry, live leaderboards, and contactless tournament administration.
When everything is done in the cloud, and every player has access to a cell phone, the traditional "scoreboard gathering" can spread out to a safe distance.
We're pleased to announce that Golf Genius is the official tournament administration software of AmateurGolf.com. Prior to implementing the company's software, we used our own proprietary system, which served us well for many years but couldn't possibly keep up with a company that employs hundreds of developers to do this every day.
Now, we have the best of both worlds. We run our own events at resorts like Bandon Dunes, Sand Valley, and Aviara Golf Club with the best software available. And we can focus on keeping the AmateurGolf.com website up to date on the part you see, and the content management platform "behind the scenes."
AmateurGolf.com lists schedules, news, rankings and results for thousands of tournaments around the world -- and more than half of them are on Golf Genius. In the weeks ahead, we will be presenting use cases and new features of Golf Genius, including the ability to score your fellow competitor and cross-check after the round, the way we always did with paper scorecards.
