The Seminoles are making up for lost time as they climb to No. 1 in the coaches poll
Florida State men's golf has done something their beloved Seminole football team has not been able to accomplish since 2014 -- be ranked No. 1 in a coaches poll.
Led by John Pak (World No. 5) and Vincent Norrman (World No. 101), the newly appointed No. 1 Noles surpassed Oklahoma in the rankings who had held the top spot since February 12th.
Despite being forced to take a hiatus in the fall, FSU came out firing on all cylinders to start the spring season with a T-1 finish with Wake Forest (No. 3) at the Camp Creek Seminole Invitational. All five Seminoles finished in the top 10 with senior Connor Futrell securing a third place finish.
A month later the Noles won again, but this time outright. Keeping the hardware at home, Florida State won the Seminole Intercollegiate in wire-to-wire fashion. Securing a win over then-number one Oklahoma helped push FSU from No. 16 into the top 10.
The Sooners battled back at the next stop, the Cabo Collegiate. Avenging their loss to the Seminoles just a week and a half later, Oklahoma's Garrett Reband clinched the team win with a four foot par putt to avoid a share of the title.
Following the Cabo, Florida State went back home to play in the Valspar Collegiate and took home yet another win, tallying their third team title in just five events. Over the stretch that has earned them the No. 1 ranking, Pak has gone T-7, T-12, 2nd, T-3, T-7 while Norrman has tallied T-7, win, T-16, T-3, T-22.
As it stands, FSU will take their No. 1 ranking into The Hayt March 28-29 at Sawgrass Country Club.
