After three extra holes, Jake Mynatt and Cooper Collins were declared co-champions at the classic Donald Ross layout
The Holston Hills Invitational draws a solid field each year to a wonderfully preserved Donald Ross layout in Knoxville, Tennessee.
And usually, the tournament produces a single champion. Not this year.
At the end of 36 holes, there were four players tied at 8-under 136. Cooper Collins, Tanner Davis, Jake Mynatt and Todd Burgan had all played well enough to get there, with Cooper Collins making the biggest surge. His 31 on the back nine featured back-to-back birdies on Nos. 10, 11, and three in a row on Nos. 15-17.
Collins' final round of 66 was the lowest of the final day.
As the even foursome headed out to the course for a playoff, the shorter days of October played a role in the outcome. After Davis and Burgan went out, it was down to Mynatt and Collins to settle the score. After three holes, they were declared co champions of the prestigious Tennessee event.
In the Senior division, Allen Rhea took a three shot lead into the final round over Kenny Wilson after a 4-under 68 in the first round, and he kept that margin as both players shot par in the final round.
Brett Myers and John Thomas tied for third at 1-over 145.
Doug Harris fired a remarkable 65 in the first round of the Super Senior division, and opened up a 6-shot lead that he turned into a 10-shot victory after coming back in round two with a solid even par round, and a tournament total of 7-under 137.
Gary Simpson was second at 3-over 147.
