The classic-shaped irons feature a thin topline, refined sole, compact blade length, and stunning chrome finish
Callaway's new Apex MB irons didn't take very long to be accepted by Tour players who were provided with prototypes as early as April of this year. That made the company's VP of Research and Development, Dr. Alan Hocknell, very happy.
That's because even though the irons look very similar to their predecessor, performance enhancements have been made in sole width, blade length, and even the top line. Tour players like Patrick Rodgers and Emiliano Grillo notice those things, and when they tested the new MB irons it didn't take them very long to put them in play.
And the Callaway Tour staff could dial them in even quicker with one of the most noticeable new features added with this release -- an adjustable weight port on the back of each iron. And it won't be just Tour players and their fitters who love this feature -- anyone looking for a better "build" of their irons will like having the weight changed in the center of the head, rather than through the shaft in the heal of the club.
“We do a lot of custom builds for these types of irons," said Hocknell. "And we want to handle that in the most elegant way possible. We can adjust the weight very precisely without having to add weight to the heal in a tip-weighting strategy."
And while the weight port isn't customer-accessible, it's clearly going to be easier for your club fitter to make minor adjustments when needed.
Here is a closer look at some of the features we discussed above:
Tour Shaping and Design
The new Apex MB irons feature a classic shape and style, with a traditional, thin topline, refined sole, compact blade length and stunning chrome finish.
High Performance 20V Grooves
Precision grooves are designed to promote the high level of control and consistent spin that muscleback players expect out of any playing conditions. The 20V grooves also stand out for reducing fliers from the rough to deliver even more control where you need it.
New CG Weighting
Callaway engineered a new weight in the center of the clubhead, that allowed them to precisely dial in swingweights without sacrificing CG location.
A True Custom Offering
The Apex MB is available as a custom-only product, so there is no stock shaft or grip. A variety of "no-upcharge" shafts are available, all of the same that are available for Callaway's Apex and X Forged models.
Price and Availability
The Apex CB irons will be available for preorder on 10/22/20 and at retail on 10/29/20 at a price of $185 per stick – steel, and $200 per stick – graphite.
