Jeff Wilson has been well known as one of the top golfers in Northern California, but after winning the Southern California Mid-Amateur in only his second crack at an SCGA event, he may become a force to reckon with in further events.
Wilson has been no stranger to top finishes in NorCal, taking top-10 finishes in the past two Stocker Cups, as well as the 2007 Kelly Cup. He has also been the medalist in three U.S. Mid-Ams, and advanced to the semifinals in each of those events.
The 2008 SCGA Mid-Am, held May 21-23 at Toscana Country Club was his first major individual title.
“When you’re trying to win a tournament,” said Wilson after hoisting the trophy at Toscana. “Sometimes it’s hard to slam the door.”
Wilson became a member of the SCGA after purchasing a home in the Palm Desert area.
"My wife and I bought a condo down here in the desert, and I also wanted to play some four ball events with my partner Don Dubois (who finished T-17th in that event)," said Wilson after his victory. "With (the Mid-Am) down here at Toscana it's such a beautiful place it's hard to pass up."
