At the Society of Seniors event at TPC Las Vegas, Steven Fink and Doug Pool keep the trophies at home

The Society of Seniors (SOS) Founders Cup concluded at TPC Las Vegas today, with hometown players taking two of the three trophies. With a crowded leaderboard and a tournament shortened to 36 holes because of rain, Thursday's final round was set up for a shootout. Steven Fink (Las Vegas, Nev.) started the day two shots behind the overnight leaders Adam Kluger (Closter, N.J.) and David Oas (Carlsbad, Calif.) but started off hot, making birdies on three of his first four holes to take a lead he would never relinquish. He did drop a couple of shots on the back nine but completed a 1-under 70 that gave him a 36-hole total of even par, one shot ahead of the field. The round of the day was turned in by Robert Funk (Canyon Lake, Calif.) who shot a 3-under 68 to finish solo second at one over par. Ken Kinkopf (Jupiter, Fla.) continued a stellar season with a third-place finish at 2 over. Kinkopf has won three SOS events this year and enters the stretch run of the senior golf calendar in second place in the AmateurGolf.com senior player-of-the-year points race. Kugler slipped to a 76 to finish tied fourth with Craig Hurlbert (Magnolia, Texas) and Paul Weinhold (Eugene, Ore.). In the Super Senior division, Doug Pool (Las Vegas, Nev.) shot a final-round 72 to win by one shot over Jeff Burda (La Quinta, Calif.). Burda was four under par for his round and in the lead before a late bogey and a birdie by Pool tipped the balance. Pool finished 2 under for the tournament, Burda was 1 under, and Evan Long (Charlotte, N.C.) finished third at even par. George Washburn (Frederick, Md.) was the only player to fly home with a trophy, passing eight players with a final-round 72 to win the Grand Master division by a shot over three players. DAY TWO RECAP The desert isn't always dry, and the second round of the SOS Founders Cup was washed out due to rain. The weather looks better for the final round and hopefully play will be concluded as scheduled. DAY ONE RECAP Adam Kluger (Closter, N.J.) and David Oas (Carlsbad, Calif.) each carded a 1-under 70 at the TPC Las Vegas to share the lead after the opening round of the Society of Seniors (SOS) Founders Cup. The SOS Founders Cup is the penultimate in event in the 2019 series of SOS events held across the country, and a strong field has assembled in the Nevada desert this week. Ken Kinkopf (Jupiter, Fla.), who has won three SOS events this season including this past week's SOS Golfweek Classic up the road in St. George, Utah, shot an even-par 71 to share third with Larry Nunez (Austin, Texas) and Stephen Maddalena (Jackson, Mich.), just one behind the leaders. In the Super Senior division, Doug Pool (Las Vegas, Nev.) shot a 3-under 68 to take a two-shot lead over Evan Long (Charlotte, N.C.) and Rich Tolly (Laguna Hills, Calif.). Steven Hakes (San Diego, Calif.) and Rick Herpich (Orchard Lake, Mich.) are tied for fourth after rounds of even-par 71. John Osborne (Vero Beach, Fla.) and Michael Mahoney (La Jolla, Calif.) share the lead in the Grand Master division after each shooting 1-over 72. The second round of the championship will be played on Wednesday morning, with the final round on Thursday.
