The tournament title is the first for the Spartans since spring 2012, when the team won the Western Athletic Conference title.
San Jose State ended its fall season with a victory on Wednesday in Stockton, Calif. The Spartans took home a wire-to-wire victory from the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite after finishing three shots ahead of BYU.
For San Jose State, three rounds under par was the key to the win. A closing 3-under 285 at The Reserve at Spanos Park moved the Spartans to 16 under for the win.
The tournament title is the first for the Spartans since the spring of 2012, when the team won the Western Athletic Conference Championship. Last spring, San Jose State hosted the Western Intercollegiate, as it does each April, and made headlines with a run at the team title while the event was televised by Golf Channel. The host team finished an eventual third.
Already this season, San Jose State has racked up two third-place finishes.
San José State didn’t just win the team title in Stockton. Senior Sean Yu walked away with an individual championship as well. Yu shot an 11-under 205 for the tournament. He also led wire-to-wire after shooting an 8-under 64 in his opening round on Monday.
Behind San Jose State, BYU was 13 under and Nevada was third another two shots behind that.
