Leons pull off comeback victory at Charlie Coe Invitational
Trent Leon and Tyler Leon pulled off a comeback victory at the Charlie Coe Invitational on Wednesday. The two opened with a 66 at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colo., that left them one shot off the lead. On Wednesday, a 68 was good enough for them to pull even with first-round leaders Eoin Middaugh and Taylor Wood, also past champions in this event. The Leons won in sudden death.

Both teams finished the event with a 134 total.

Behind Middaugh and Wood in second, Matt Call and Brad Payne tied for third at 135.

In the senior division, Mike Booker and Pat Youngs fired back-to-back rounds of 71 to edge two teams by a single shot: Hollis Sullivan and Jeff Dillard, and Jim Lipe and Bob Cooper.

ROUND ONE RECAP

It’s a crowded leaderboard after one round of the Charlie Coe Invitational, but one two-man team managed to separate – even if only slightly. Eoin Middaugh and Taylor Wood combined on Tuesday to post an opening 65 at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colo.

The event took a one-year hiatus last year as winter moved into the Denver area early. Still, Middaugh and Wood have taken home this title before. They last won in 2015, and by a definitive six shots.

This year’s Charlie Coe is far from over, however, as two teams trail the leaders by just a shot. Those teams are made up of Trent Leon and Tyler Leon, and Marcus Jones and Norton Rainey.

Two more teams are tied at 68: Matt Call and Brad Payne and Jonathan Marisco and Ben Hayes.

In the senior division, two teams ended the first round tied for the top spot. Jim Lipe and Bob Cooper combined for a 70 and so did Pat Stayer and Kip Estep.
