Steve Harwell of Mooresville, N.C. caps off an already exciting year with a dominating win at the Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship. The win at historic Mimosa Hills makes Harwell only the third person in CGA history to win both the Carolinas Senior Amateur and the North Carolina Senior Amateur in the same year.

Harwell carried a three-shot lead into the final round and didn’t let up. After 54 holes, Harwell won the Championship by 10 shots over his nearest competitor.

“Tee to green, I played as good as I can,” Harwell said. “It was kind of an easy week. I hit it so good. I’ve worked hard on my swing. So, it's just a great way to cap off the end of the year. I'm sure my wife is going to be happy that the tournament season is over.”

Any one of Harwell’s wins in 2019 are enough to make most golfer envious, but cumulatively they make up a year that will make the world’s top senior amateurs stop and take notice. Harwell’s wins in 2019 include the Carolinas Senior Four-Ball with partner, Pat Brady, the Coleman Invitational, the N.C. Senior Amateur, the National Senior Hall of Fame and now, the Carolinas Senior Amateur. Harwell made it to the Quarterfinals of the U.S. Senior Amateur at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C. His finish at Old Chatham earned him exemption into next year’s U.S. Senior Amateur.

“It's been a hell of a year for me,” Harwell said. “Over my career, I’ve won a lot but I have seconds in all the majors. To finally win a couple all in the same year, it's just unbelievable. To win both the N.C. Senior and the Carolinas Senior...I just have goosebumps.”

Harwell’s 18-under-par, 198 finish is a record-setting low 54-hole score for the Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship.

Our runners-up, Pat Thompson of Asheville, N.C. and Linley Tate of Greensboro, N.C. finished the Championship at 8-under-par, 208 total. There was a three-way tie for fourth place at 7-under-par, 209 between Dale Fuller of Raleigh, N.C., Geno Berchiatti of Greenville, S.C. and Lionel Sutton of La Grange, N.C.
