Morgan completes season sweep with State Fair Senior win

The 23rd annual State Fair Senior and 10th annual State Fair Super Senior Championships were held at Mather Golf Course Saturday August 31st and Sunday September 1st.

SENIOR DIVISION

Mark Morgan won his 3rd State Fair Senior Championship (previous wins in 2015 and 2016). Mark shot a 66 in the final round to win by 2 strokes over John Rotteveel and Bobby Schaeffer, and 3 strokes over Dave Baskins, 2013 Senior Champion. Rotteveel and Schaeffer shot 68 in the final round.

With the win Morgan completes a sweep of the SGC Senior championships for 2019, having previously won the County Senior in May and the City Senior in July.

SUPER SENIOR DIVISION

Jeff Burda won his first Super Senior Championship in a playoff with Chuck Richesin. Jeff won on the 3rd playoff hole. Jeff shot 69 in the final round, while Chuck shot 67 to get into the playoff. Jeff is a 3-time winner of the State Fair Senior Championship, winning in 2008, 2011, and 2012.

Tied for 3rd was Mark Miller and Bob Olds, both from Brentwood.

Richesin was close to a clean sweep of the four SGC Super Senior championships in 2019, having won the County and City Super Seniors as well as the Vintage Super Senior.

ABOUT THE California State Fair Senior

The 28th annual California State Fair Senior Championship and 15th annual California State Fair Super Senior Championship will be contested on Saturday and Sunday, August 31-September 1, 2024 at Mather Golf Course.

The tournament is played at scratch and is open to male amateur golfers 55 and older with a current handicap index of 9.4 or less (Senior); 65 and older with an index of 11.4 and less (Super Senior); and 75 and older with an index of 13.4 and less (Legends).

The entry fee is $200 and includes two days of green fees, range balls and awards (power carts not included). Tee time intervals will be 10 minutes.

The competition will be stroke-play over 36 holes (18 holes each day). Seniors will play approximately 6,500 yards (shortened Bomber/Black tees); Super Seniors will play approximately 6,200 yards (shortened Raptor/Blue tees); and Legends will play approximately 5500 yards (Navigator/Silver tees). A tie for the championship in any flight will be resolved with a playoff.

The entry deadline is August 21, 2024. There will be no refunds after this date. Withdrawals prior to the entry deadline will be assessed a $10 cancellation fee.
