Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club takes one-stroke victory at El Conquistador Resort Golf Course

Los Croabas – Puerto Rico (December 15, 2007) -- While it was snow and ice again in the MidWest and NorthEast, round three of the 2007 Puerto Rico Ambassadors Cup was played under mostly sunny skies, strong breezes and temperatures in the mid 80’s.

Round three play was the finish we all hope to witness, a spectacular shot on number 18 at El Conquistador by Royal Palm Yacht and CC that hit the pin and set up the final putt to win by one shot over first and second round leaders Royal Dunes Golf Club.  Royal Palm finished a remarkable 46-under 242 tournament total with a final round 19-under 129, with Royal Dunes finishing at 45-under 243.

Professional Chris Holtrop, from Royal Palms was the overall money leader for 2007 by winning the two day individual professional event with a 138,  then finishing tied for third in the final one day round to take overall professional honors. Other final day winners from the professional ranks were Dave Moro from Wyldewood Golf and CC with a 69 at El Conquistador and David Laudien from Howell Park Golf Club at Palmas Del Mar Country Club -  Flamboyant Course where he fired 71.

In the team event, there were three other prizes for those that did not make the top two positions over three days.  Capturing first place in Flight 1 was Braemar CC, and second was Carlisle CC.  In Flight 2, first place went to Wyldewood Golf and CC and just behind was Morgan Creek.  Flights one and two were played at El Conquistador.  The Challenge Round was played at Palmas Del Mar with Howell Park Golf Club winning first place followed by the International Golf Club.

The Puerto Rico Ambassadors Cup is put on by Travel + Leisure Golf with sponsors Nike, amateurGolf.com, Rums of Puerto Rico, SunBuster, Gustbuster, Real Golf Radio, Palmas Del Mar and American Express.
