Northern Cal High School Champ: Final results
RIPON, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2007)-- It came as no surprise that defending team champions St. Francis High School recaptured the NCGA/CIF Girls High School Championship and Mina Harigae of Robert Louise Stevenson captured the individual title at Spring Creek Golf and Country Club
The only player to post a score under par, Harigae’s 72 was two strokes better then runner-up Ashley Edwards of Deer Valley. Harigae, who will be attending Duke University in the fall, has been favored to win this championship, as well as the state championship, all season.
After commenting on swing changes, the team leader stated, “I just try and play well, it hasn’t been my best season.”
With only two individual medals to her name this season, the Stevenson senior hopes to improve her game and add the state championship trophy to her collection.
In the team event, each school plays six girls, using the best five scores for the team total. With a team total of 402, fourteen strokes better then runner-up Robert Louise Stevenson, it is clear which team dominated this championship. In the eleven years that the event has taken place, Sacramento-based school St. Francis, has captured eight titles.
“I am honored to be coaching such a talented group of girls and for them to pull off another victory with the caliber of girls here is just great,” stated first-year coach Kim Eber. With one week to prepare for the state championship Eber stated that for the next week she just hope that they are enjoyong themselves.
“I try and make it fun but I just let the girls play," she said. "They already put a lot of pressure on themselves so I don’t need to add to that.”
Marissa Mar of St. Francis finished third individually while Joy Kim of Albany, Robert Louise Stevenson’s Sydney Burlison and Alexandra Groetsema of Palo Alto tied for fourth.
Monte Vista High School finished third in the team event with a total of 428.
