Sease, Todd aiming for title defense in final round of the Devlin
Secession Golf Club
Secession Golf Club

Defending champions Jordan Sease and Walter Todd are keeping their pace in their title defense effort at the Devlin. After two rounds of two-man best-ball, the pair from South Carolina have a one-shot lead on Brian Kennedy and Dan Russo, a pair from Florida and New York, respectively.

Now the format switches to combined score.

Conditions were ideal at Secession Golf Club in Beaufort, S.C., and after two days, 18 teams are within seven shots of the lead entering the final round.

Kennedy and Russo had the best round of the day on Saturday, a 65. It was two shots better than Sease and Todd, which is what helped them make up some ground after the leaders had 64 on Friday to open.

In the Saber division, Craig Junio and Tom White also had a Saturday 65 and lead by three shots with their 133 total. Ryan Hill and Eric Joseph are five shots behind them.

ROUND ONE RECAP

For the opening round of the Devlin, Secession Golf Club in Beaufort, S.C., played just as it was designed to: firm and fast. South Carolinians Jordan Sease and Walt Todd started early on their title defense, logging an opening 64 for an immediate three-shot lead on the field.

Sease and Todd are former teammates at Winthrop. They went low a year ago, logging rounds of 65-66 in the first two days of four-ball, but went lower this year. The duo pulled away, however, in the third and final round when the format switches to combined score.

Behind the leaders, it’s crowded at Secession. Six teams opened with 67. A total of 23 teams are under par. It will be a close leaderboard as the final 36 holes play out.

In the saber division, a round of 67 leads. That came from Kelly Adams and Lee Thornton, both from Texas. They have a much smaller margin considering that three teams lurk behind them after opening rounds of 68.

Saber division defending champions Michael Wharton-Palmer and Brian McGahey opened with 72 and are five off the lead. There is much golf left to play however.

Second-round tee times begin at 9:30 a.m. ET and play starts on Nos. 1 and 10.
