Brandon Harkins dominates 17th hole for third straight day to swing title to his favor
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Sept. 3, 2007)-- The par-5 17th hole at the Alister MacKenzie Course at Haggin Oaks had been very kind to Walnut Creek's Brandon Harkins through the first two days of the California State Amateur.
Things were no different in Sunday's final round, with the hole yielding its third consecutive eagle to Harkins, which set up a two-shot swing and spurred his one-shot victory over Roseville's Matt Hollinsead, a Haggin Oaks employee.
The winning tally stood at 14-under-par 202 for Harkins, who led the Sacramento City Championship heading into the final round this year, but ended up tied for third. The Santa Barbara Community College student only went 2-under in the final round, but saw the lead stand up after his course and tournament-tying record 64 on Day 2.
