MARICOPA, Ariz. (Jan. 4, 2018) – Trevor Olkowski, a sophomore at the University of Colorado, shot a final-round 70 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes to win the 2019 Saguaro Amateur. Olkowski, a Grand Junction, Colo., native, defeated Sean Carlon of Albuquerque, N.M., by a single shot.
Olkowski opened the event with rounds of shot 71-67. He made a three-and-a-half foot putt for bogey on No. 18 for the win after Carlon put the pressure on him with a birdie of his own. Olkowski navigated a difficult greenside bunker shot to safely allow two putts for the win.
This is Olkowski’s second big win in four months after being co-medalist in September’s Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational. With the win, he also was the 2018-19 Troon Saguaro Amateur Series Champion for his combined play in the Sizzler Amateur, Gobbler Amateur, and the Saguaro Amateur.
Behind Carlon, John Felitto finished solo third with rounds of 73-70-68. Felitto is a junior at Notre Dame.
Another two shots back, a five-way tie for fourth included Tyler Severin, Sam Choi, Koichiro Ishika, Jake Staiano and Pryce Beshoory.
