Steven Fisk has now won four tournaments in a row this fall, and on Tuesday, he helped his team to the title, too
DULUTH, Ga. (Oct. 16, 2018) – When you have a lead horse like Steven Fisk, it’s easy to get a leg up. Behind its frontman, and his fourth consecutive individual title of the season, Georgia Southern won a second team title on Tuesday. The Eagles edged UNC Greensboro by a single shot to win the Autotrader Collegiate.
Georgia Southern went 35 under for the week at Berkeley Hills Country Club. The Eagles took a two-shot lead with their opening 11-under 273 and never relinquished it. Even as UNC Greensboro came in with a 10-under 278 in the final round, Georgia Southern did just enough to hold them off.
The Eagles led the field in par-4 and par-5 scoring and rolled in a tournament high 68 birdies and three eagles.
"This fall has been a big step forward for this program,” head coach Carter Collins said. “Getting the young guys some experience was one of the goals, and they have progressed so well. To shoot 99-under over the last three weeks on three different courses in three different states is incredible, and I'm so proud of the team for what they have accomplished."
As for Fisk, the win was the seventh of his career and the fourth consecutive this season (more on Fisk’s game here). The team has teed it up five times this fall. Wilson Andress (T-4) and Ben Carr (T-7) also finished inside the top 10 for Georgia Southern.
Georgia State was third at 16 under and Samford was fourth at 14 under. James Madison rounded out the top 5 at 12 under.
