The 2017 U.S. Mid-Amateur champ and another Massachusetts mid-amateur stalwart Doug Clapp win at Presidents GC
NORTH QUINCY, Mass. (October 14, 2018) - Matt Parziale and Doug Clapp worked overtime to win the Norfolk County Four-Ball at Presidents Golf Course.
Parziale, the 2017 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion and the current #1 ranked player in the AmateurGolf.com Mid-Amateur Ranking, and Clapp, like his partner a former Massachusetts Golf Association Player of the Year, put together rounds of 65-62 in the two-man best-ball format.
Two other teams were able to match their score, including Mark O'Sullivan and Aengus McAllister who shot the low round of the tournament, a 60, in the final round. Nick Maccario and Colin Brennan had rounds of 64-63 to create a three-team playoff for the title.
After all three teams parred the first two playoff holes, Maccario and Brennan were eliminated when they failed to birdie the par-4 9th hole, as the other two teams did.
On the fourth playoff hole, the par-4 1st, a par by Parziale and Clapp was good enough to edge out O'Sullivan and McAllister and take the victory.
Former Massachusetts Mid-Amateur and New England Amateur champion Brian Higgins teamed with Daniel Falcucci to finish solo fourth, three shots out of the playoff.
