Brian Miller closed in 4-under 68 at Travis Pointe Country Club

ANN ARBOR, MI (September 28, 2018) - Brian Miller of Lake Orion has played in Golf Association of Michigan tournaments for several years and enjoyed them. He just had not won one until this year, and now he has two.

The 57-year-old General Motors engineer shot a 4-under 68 and won the 8th GAM Senior Tournament of Champions presented by Chemical Bank Thursday at Travis Pointe Country Club.

David Bartnick of Livonia, the recent GAM Senior Champion, and Steve Maddalena of Jackson, each shot 71s and Ian Harris of Bloomfield Hills shot 72 to round out the top four in the championship that brings together golfers who have won their GAM member-club championships or a GAM senior championship during the 2018 season.

Earlier this summer Miller teamed up with Bob Carson of Auburn Hills to win the GAM Four-Ball Championship for his first GAM win.

“It was a great experience with one of my long-time great playing partners,” he said. “That got me into this, but I also won the senior club championship at Indianwood. I guess I qualified twice, and I’m glad I did. The GAM puts on such great tournaments, and I play as many as I can and really enjoy playing competitive golf.”

He said the course set-up at Travis Pointe was perfect for him.

“You had to hit is straight and I’m a short, straight hitter,” he said. “I was center of the fairway the whole time and I putted well. That’s a great combination.”

Miller, playing in the first group of the day off No. 1, said he hit 16 greens in regulation.

“I was never in really any trouble after making bogey on the first hole,” he said. “The course was in great shape. There were no real highlight holes, just steady golf.”

Travis Pointe, host of the LPGA Volvik Championship the last three years, has hosted several Golf Association of Michigan championships in recent years, including the Michigan Amateur Championship, as well as several Michigan PGA tournaments and USGA qualifiers.
