Costa Mesa City Champ: Hiralatake in playoff
COSTA MESA, Calif. (Aug. 5, 2007)-- UC San Diego senior Chris Hiralatake, who played on the Tritons' golf squad for two years before leaving to focus more on his studies, rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to defeat Corona del Mar's Will Tipton in the first playoff hole of the Costa Mesa City Championship, held at the Costa Mesa Country Club.
Both golfers finished with two-day totals of 3-under-par 139, while a pair of Costa Mesa competitors, Adam Sandahl and Evan Derian, tied for third at 140.

Past champions include Mark O'Meara
(1979)
and Brian Lindley (1980). Lindley, who in

lost in the final of the US Amateur to

Lagos Course, at 59. Mark O'Meara's
record
speaks for itself.
Open and Senior (ages 50+) flighted divisions. All
players must
be 18 years of age or older.
