MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Aug. 28, 2018) – As more than 3,000 golfers work their way among 55 area courses in Myrtle Beach, the weather – and the atmosphere in general – could not be better. The PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur is town.

The leaderboard shuffled in the gross division in Tuesday’s second round of tournament play and Derrick Oyervides came out on top after 36 holes. Oyervides opened with 72 at International Club and followed it with another steady round of 73 on Tuesday at Arrowhead Country Club. He is tied for first with Zach Alred, who had rounds of 74-71.

First-round leader Tim Gavrich fell to fourth after following his opening 71 with a 76 at Arrowhead.

In the senior gross division, Roger Oliver and Steve Comings are tied at the top. Oliver had 72 on Barefoot Resort’s Love course to open the tournament, while Comings had 76. But Comings came back with a 71 at Wild Wing Plantation’s Avocet course and Oliver rose to 75.

Ultimately, players in each of the 63 handicap flights are gunning to become the flight champion and earn a spot in Friday’s championship round. The top three finishers in the gross divisions will also play in a championship round of their own on Friday.
