amateurgolf.com SF County Am: Haag in playoff
Wins his third amateurgolf.com tourney
Wins his third amateurgolf.com tourney

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (July 31, 2007)-- Randy Haag's final round of the amateurgolf.com San Francisco County Amateur started on a high note with four straight birdies, and ended on a bit of a sour one when he made consecutive 5's at Presidio Golf Course.

Nevertheless, Haag found himself atop the leaderboard at 145 with Michael Prescott and heading into a playoff.

Haag, 48, a past champion of the San Francisco City and many other amateur "majors" launched his drive to within 110 yards of the green, then knocked his approach shot into birdie range.

"I had hit the same kind of shot in the morning, so I had some kind of idea how the putt would move," said Haag. "I made a good stroke and watched it roll in the cup."

The birdie putt gave Haag his third amateurgolf.com tournament victory of the year, and a measure of confidence heading into the USGA Amateur qualifier this Monday at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club in San Mateo.

After a major back injury has severely limited his play this season, Haag hopes to earn a spot in the tournament, which will be held at his home course, The Olympic Club in San Francisco. (and by the way, amateurgolf.com will be there with web video highlights all week!)

The action was similarly tight in the senior division where Herb Jensen of Carmichael caught up with current NCGA Senior Points leader Mark Miller of Antioch by making up four strokes over the last nine holes. Both golfers agreed to forgo a playoff and Jensen was awarded the victory on a card-off.

In the net flight, amateurgolf.com regular James Grensted of Belmont carded a net 149 to take a four-stroke victory over Alexander Mason of San Francisco and Nigel Harold of Alameda.

The tournament staff at amateurgolf.com would like to thank Presidio members and staff for their superb support of the event, particularly tournament director Becky Jensen. And a special note of thanks go out to Tony White, the tournament founder who now resides in New York and graciously turned the event over to amateurgolf.com starting this year.

ABOUT THE amateurgolf.com 2007 San Francisco County Amateur

For the first time in years, the historic Presidio Golf course will host a substantial amateur tournament of 36 holes -- the San Francisco County Amateur. The tournament, formerly administered by Tony White, has been made part of the amateurgolf.com Tournament Series starting with the 2007 season. We have long desired to hold an event at The Presidio -- this was the perfect opportunity. Although the tournament will be held on a Monday and Tuesday you will want to make time on your schedule to play this one.
