SC Mid-Am Four-Ball: Local Knowledge lifts Weiss, Schaffer

FLORENCE, SC (August 19, 2018) - The Florence duo of Jon Weiss and John Schaffer shot the low round of the day with a 60 and a two day total of eighteen under par 122 to win the SCGA Mid-Amateur Four Ball Championship held at Florence Country Club in Florence, SC.

Using their knowledge of the classic Florence Country Club layout, the local tandem combined for ten birdies and no bogeys en route to their round of ten under par 60. Jon Weiss, current club champion at Florence Country Club, got his team off to a great start shooting a front nine 28 on his own ball.

Finishing tied for second at fifteen under par 125 were first round co-leaders Chandler Vilcheck and Travis Cashion along with Yancey Johnson and Chad Siefert. Defending champions Walter and Thomas Todd made a final round push finishing alone in fourth at fourteen under par 126.

The 2018 SCGA Mid-Amateur Four Ball Championship was played on the par 70 – 6,413 yard Florence Country Club. The field consisted of 74 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes. The Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship is in its 24th year of existence.

ABOUT THE South Carolina Mid-Am Four-Ball

The Mid Am Four Ball is what we call a "working man's" event with participants over the age of 30 partnering up with a teammate and playing a 36 hole Four Ball event. The Mid Am Four Ball has historically been a very competitive event with a great atmosphere of fun and friendship.
